Adapting to the demands of modern hospitality

Dating back to the 17th century, the Grade II-listed The Spotted Dog in Flamstead, Hertfordshire is an historic village pub with a strong architectural and cultural heritage. When the building underwent a full refurbishment, the challenge was clear: preserve its wealth of history while adapting it for the demands of modern hospitality.

Authentic reclaimed materials to support the restoration

We were selected by Mark Smith at developers KLM Retail to source a range of authentic reclaimed materials, supporting both the restoration of original features and the creation of a durable, functional space.

Working across both interior and exterior elements, Martin Edwards supplied reclaimed flooring, walling and decorative beams, materials chosen not only for their aesthetic authenticity, but for their ability to perform in a high-traffic drinking and dining environment.

Architectural integrity and historical significance

The result is a carefully balanced scheme: a venue that meets the expectations of a contemporary pub, while remaining true to the architectural integrity and historical significance of the building.

A modern dining pub experience, rooted firmly in its past, delivered through carefully sourced reclaimed materials - and a great example of how our extensive range of products enables developers to deliver sensitive restorations in listed properties.
