The Bluebird Hotel, Salmesbury, Lancashire

An ambitious makeover with a big materials list

Hospitality
Leisure

When Manchester-based brewery JW Lees acquired the landmark Boddingtons Arms from Greene King, it revealed ambitious plans for a major redevelopment of this landmark pub into a 4 star hotel with bar and restaurants.

Located close to the aerospace plant at Salmesbury, Lancashire where Donald Campbell’s famous Bluebird speed boat was engineered, the eponymously named hotel required a major refurbishment that drew on the full range and variety of our reclaimed materials.

An eclectic mix of design styles and materials

In a project that required a full internal fit out, external treatments and a range of bespoke fittings, the design of the new Bluebird hotel required an extensive range of reclaimed materials which were used in both the public areas, such as the bar and restaurant, as well as individual bedrooms. The aim? To create a building that suggested tradition and age, but with a modern, contemporary take.

Reclaimed brick, stone, flooring and timbers

We worked with Blackpool-based refurbishment specialists Myriad Construction to source quality materials such as stone (used internally and externally), wooden flooring and reclaimed timbers for feature areas of the development, with a focus on quality and durability.

The end result is a truly distinctive hotel, pub and restaurant that creates a memorable experience linked to the sporting ambitions of Donald Campbell without resorting to over-theming the interior. A great example of how quality reclaimed materials can be given another lease of life by bringing contemporary style to an interior design.
