An ambitious two-phase restoration of a derelict Scottish Baronial mansion in Dumfries.
In this ambitious, two phase heritage restoration of a derelict castle in Dumfries, designed in the Scottish baronial style, we were commissioned by contractors John Robinson to provide a range of reclaimed building materials to ensure its sensitive refurbishment into an 11 bedroom property.
Set in 33 acres and with 180 years of history, the property was extensively redeveloped in 2016 within the parameters of its Grade B listed building status.Originally designed by Edinburgh-based Peddie & Kinnear, the main structure of the property is built from red sandstone and polished ashlar stonework. Its stunning interior was redesigned by famous interior designer Kenneth Ko to create a modern contemporary space within the context of its historic architectural features, fixtures and fittings.
Given the B list status of the property, sourcing the correct building materials in the appropiate shade and texture were essential to the integrity of the restoration. Here we provided paving, walling, flooring and roofing for internal and external reconstruction/decoration.
Reclaimed building materials provided for this project included...
Traditional beech, block and pine flooring reclaimed from residential and commercial properties.
Yorkshire & Indian stone paving, setts, kerbs and traditional cobblestone.
Reclaimed roofing materials including slate, clay, concrete, ridge tiles and profile sheeting.
Wire cut. Accrington. Hand-made. Extensive stocks of reclaimed bricks and building stone.
