Creating a signature Anglo-Bavarian look for a growing UK bar brand
When hospitality group Mission Mars set out to create their distinctive "Bohemian Pleasure Palace" concept, authenticity, material scale, and architectural integrity were paramount. What began with an ambitious £2m transformation of a Victorian building in Manchester back in 2015 has evolved into a highly successful nationwide rollout - including landmark venues in Birmingham, Liverpool, and their latest venue in Soho, London.
Across every location, Martin Edwards Reclamation has been specified as a key supply partner, delivering the extensive volume of high-quality, authentic reclaimed timber and industrial salvage needed to establish their signature Alpine aesthetic.
The Albert’s Schloss design relies heavily on the expansive use of wood and natural surfaces to replicate the warmth, texture, and character of an authentic Bavarian bier hall. For a 300+ cover venue designed for high-capacity drinking, dining, and live entertainment, modern mass-produced equivalents simply lack the necessary soul and durability.
To ensure both consistency in quality, and individuality with each interior, Martin Edwards Reclamation supplied a full suite of materials across the rollout. This included structural pitch pine, character-rich wall cladding, and heavy-duty timber flooring capable of withstanding massive footfall while preserving the historic character expected in these carefully curated settings.
Transitioning a successful regional design to a high-profile location like London's Soho requires a supplier who can maintain consistent quality at scale.
The original fit-out in Manchester set the blueprint, integrating our reclaimed industrial timbers to balance the building's important Victorian origins with Alpine ski lodge styling.
As the brand successfully expanded to major footprint sites in Birmingham and Liverpool, our continually replenished yards ensured that matching lots of characterful timber could be supplied seamlessly in large quantities to contractors on tight build schedules, without compromising on quality.
The ongoing rollout of Albert’s Schloss demonstrates the commercial benefits of partnering with an established reclamation stockholder where quality and dependability of materials is essential. Large-scale hospitality fit-outs require immense volumes of matching materials delivered exactly when the site schedule demands it.
“It’s massive, and you can literally smell the £2m fit out.”
