Mount Pleasant, Near Bury

Creating instant character for a contemporary rural home

Residential

The Mount Pleasant residential development, situated in rural countryside near Bury, was designed to combine contemporary living with the character and warmth traditionally associated with Lancashire's rural buildings.

A modern manor house - that sits in its natural surroundings

For Robinson Construction, the challenge was to create a modern detached home that would sit naturally within its surroundings while avoiding the appearance of a typical new-build property.

To achieve this Martin Edwards Reclamation supplied reclaimed stone, weathered brick and reclaimed timbers that helped give the property an immediate sense of history and permanence. Rather than waiting decades for the building to develop character, these carefully selected materials introduced the texture, variation and authenticity normally associated with much older buildings.

The “lived in” weather look with reclaimed brick and timbers

The result is a contemporary detached property with a distinctive heritage look and feel that feels rooted in its setting rather than imposed upon it.

The project demonstrates how reclaimed materials can help developers differentiate contemporary homes in an increasingly uniform housing market.

Character and texture with ever brick and stone

By introducing genuine age, texture and character, reclaimed stone, brick and timber can create properties that feel established from day one, delivering the individuality and authenticity that many buyers actively seek.
